Successful investing
is more about picking the right industry than picking the best stock.
Stocks Move in Groups
Companies in closely related businesses such as banks, pipeline
operators or restaurants move together because they are affected
in similar ways by changes in market and overall economic conditions.
Professional money managers closely
track the performance of these sectors to identify
which are coming into favor and which are cooling down.
Once they’ve identified a promising trend, the sector picks up steam
as it comes to the attention of more and more money managers.
Eventually
the sector becomes overvalued and/or market conditions turn unfavorable.
Then, the big money rotates into the next hot sector.
There's Always a Bull Market Somewhere
Regardless of what the overall market is doing, you’ll always find some
strong sectors. The Scoreboard tracks the recent performance of 33 sectors
with high-dividend stocks. You can use it to pinpoint hot and cold
sectors.
Dividend Scoreboard Details
Each industry sector is represented by an index made up of stocks or other
securities selected to be representative of all stocks in the sector.
The Scoreboard shows total returns for the past month, year-to-date, and
last 12-months for each sector.
The
Scoreboard counts share price changes plus dividends received during
each period to compute total returns. The sector return is the average
of its component returns. Thus, the sector returns are not price or
market-cap weighted. They assume equal dollar amounts invested in each
portfolio component.
The
industry sector indexes do not necessarily include the same stocks
and/or securities contained in Dividend Detective Premium portfolios
with similar names. |
