Foreign Stocks Trading on U.S. Exchanges
Here's a list of stocks based in foreign
countries that trade on U.S. exchanges
in the form of ADRs (American
Depository Receipts). An ADR represents a specified number of shares of
the foreign companys stock and trades just like a stock.
To qualify for listing, ADRs
must meet the following requirements:
Minimum dividend
yield: 2.5
Minimum recent
trading price: $3.00
Minimum average daily
trading volume: 20,000
Low Beta
Stocks
Beta is a
historical volatility measure. Our research has found that such "low-beta"
stocks often outperform "higher-beta" stocks.
Dividend
Withholding Taxes
Many countries withhold a
percentage of dividends paid to U.S. residents for
income taxes. You can apply for to the U.S. IRS for a foreign tax credit for at least a portion of the amount withheld. How
much you'll get back depends on your tax status. The chart
below shows the withholding rates for countries with ADRs
trading in the U.S.
