(a.k.a. Dividend Scoreboard)

Best & Worst High-Dividend Stocks in 65 Different Categories

We have identified more than 65 market categories (industries, sectors, etc.) of interest to high-dividend investors. Click on a category name to see the highest dividend yielding stocks (or funds) making up that category.

For each category, the table lists the average total returns (share price changes plus dividends received) for the last 12-months, 3-months, and one month, for the stocks or funds making up that category. It also lists the average yields plus our proprietary trend score for each stock and for the category as a whole.

For the stocks or funds making up each category, the table also includes a flag signifying whether a stock is "optionable," and the last declared ex-dividend date.

Trend Scores

We calculate the Trend Score for each stock based on its last 12-month's share price action, but overweighting recent price moves. Positive Trend Scores tell you that the share price has generally moved up over the past 12-months, and vice-versa. The higher the number, the stronger the trend. Thus, Trend Scores are price momentum indicators.

The Category Trend Score is simply the average trend scores of the stocks making up the category. Growth investors should stick with stocks in Categories with positive scores, but value investors might look for out-of-favor categories (negative scores) that are showing signs of life.

Using Individual Stock Trend Scores

How you use Trend Scores depends on your investing style. If you're a momentum player, higher is better. However, if you play that game, you  must watch your stocks every day and be prepared to immediately sell on any bad news.

For longer-term investors, our research as found that picking stocks with with scores above -5 and below +5 outperform other stocks over three- and six-month hold times.
