Anworth Mortgage Asset (ANH) Invests in single-family, adjustable-rate and fixed-rate mortgage-backed securities guaranteed by government agencies, as well as non-agency mortgages rated investment grade. Apollo Commercial R. E. Finance (ARI) This September 2009 IPO, externally managed by Apollo Global Management, invests in senior commercial real estate mortgage loans, commercial mortgage-backed securities, and other commercial real estate-related debt instruments.  Acquired Apollo Residential Mortgage in August 2016. Arbor Realty Trust (ABR)  Provides specialty financing, such as mezzanine and bridge loans for multifamily and commercial real estate. Suspended dividend payouts in February 2009. but resumed in May 2012. Armour Residential REIT (ARR) Invests in single-family, adjustable-rate and fixed-rate mortgage-backed securities guaranteed by government agencies. Blackstone Mortgage Trust (BXMT) Formerly Capital Trust, BXMT changed its name to Blackstone Mortgage Trust in May 2013, Originates and/or invests in mostly "floating rate" loans secured by commercial properties. Managed by a unit of private equity giant Blackstone Group. Capstead Mortgage (CMO)  Invests in single-family residential adjustable-rate mortgages  that are guaranteed by government agencies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  Chimera  Investment Trust (CIM)  An August 2007 IPO, Chimera invests in residential mortgage-backed securities including prime, jumbo, and Alt-A loans. Was externally managed by Annaly Capital Management, but converted to internal management in August 2015.   Colony Credit Real Estate (CLNC) Originates and invests in a variety of debt instruments secured by commercial real estate. Dynex Capital (DX) Invests in agency and non-agency loans secured by single-family residential and commercial property mortgages. Ellington Residential Mortgage (EARN) Invests in single-family residential mortgages, that are guaranteed by government agencies. Exantas Capital (XAN) Formerly Resource Capital, Exantas, which is externally managed, invests in loans secured by commercial real estate. Great Ajax (AJX) A February 2015 IPO, Great Ajax invests in non- performing (delinquent) loans and 'reperforming' (formerly delinquent, but now performing) loans secured by single-family residential properties. Externally managed. Hunt Companies Finance Trust (HCFC) Formerly Five Oaks Investment, externally-managed Hunt invests in loans secured by multi-family housing and other commercial real estate. Invesco Mortgage Capital (IVR) A June 2009 IPO, Invesco invests in residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities. Externally managed by Invesco Advisors.  
iStar (STAR) Offers financing secured by commercial real estate. Changed ticker from SFI to STAR in December 2013, and changed name from iStar Financial to iStar Inc. in August 2015. Suspended dividend payouts in September 2008. Restarted paying dividends in August 2018. Jernigan Capital (JCAP) Provides debt and equity capital to developers of self-storage facilities. Ladder Capital (LADR)  A February 2014 IPO, Ladder, which originates real estate loans secured by commercial properties, is internally managed. MFA Financial (MFA)  Invests in single-family, adjustable-rate and fixed-rate agency and non-agency mortgage-backed securities. Changed name from MFA Mortgage Investments to MFA Financial in December 2008. MTGE Investment (MTGE) Formerly American Capital Mortgage, changed name to MTGE Investment in 2016.  Invests in mix of mortgage- backed securities that are guaranteed by government agencies, as well as those that are not agency guaranteed. New York Mortgage Trust (NYMT) Invests in mortgages on multi-family properties and single family residential properties. NYMT was previously engaged in loan origination, but, in 2007, sold that business to IndyMac Bancorp. Also in 2007, it sold its wholesale operations to Franklin Credit Management. New Residential Investment (NRZ) Derives most of its income from mortgage servicing rights. Also invests in current and delinquent residential mortgages. Orchid Island Capital (ORC) A February 2013 IPO, Orchid invests in single-family, adjustable-rate and fixed-rate mortgage-backed securities that are guaranteed by government agencies. Pays monthly dividends. PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust (PMT) A July 2009 IPO, PennyMac, externally managed by PennyMac Financial Services, invests primarily in residential mortgage loans and related assets.  Redwood Trust (RWT) Invests in residential and commercial real estate loans, and in asset-backed securities backed by real estate loans. It credit-enhances loans by acquiring and managing the first-loss and credit-sensitive securities that bear the credit risk of securitized loans. Starwood Property Trust (STWD) An August 2009 IPO, Starwood invests in residential and commercial mortgage loans and related assets. TPG RE Finance Trust (TRTX) Originates and acquires commercial first mortgage loans and other commercial property. Externally managed by TPG RE Finance Trust Management. Tremont Mortgage Trust (TRMT) A September 2017 IPO, Tremont invests in  first mortgages and/or mezzanine loans secured by commercial real estate with values up to $75 million. Managed by a unit of RMR Group LLC. Two Harbors Investment (TWO) Invests in residential mortgage-backed securities. Externally managed by a unit of Pine River Capital Management.  Started operations on 10/28/09 after merger with Capital Acquisition Corporation. Acquired CYS Cypress Investments in July 2018. United Development Funding IV (UDFI) Formerly a non-traded REIT, UDFI, which listed it shares in June 2014. lends money via secured debt to real estate developers. In February 2016, NASDAQ halted trading after FBI raided UDFI offices. Dividend suspended in January 2017. Western Asset Mortgage Capital (WMC) A May 2012 IPO, Western mostly invests in single-family mortgage-backed securities that are guaranteed by government agencies as well as non-agency residential and commercial mortgages. Externally managed by a unit of Legg Mason.
